Grant Guidelines

The grant policies, guidelines, programs, application requirements, and funding decisions are the responsibility of the Board of Directors. These items may be modified by our Board ofDirectors at any time with its sole discretion.

Requirements and Preferences:
  1. Grants are awarded for projects consistent with our program areas and are limited to not-for-profit organizations, which can provide a Certificate of Financial Accountability (Ishur Al Nihul Pinkasei Cheshbonot Takin) and a Tax Deduction at Source Certificate (Ishur Le'Tzorech Nikuy Mas BaMakor).
  2. SFI will consider proposals seeking support for more than one year but discourages applicants from applying for funds for a period of more than three years. All grants approved for more than one year are conditioned upon and subject to annual review and approval before funds for subsequent years are released.
  3. All successful applicants seeking a second or third year of funding should submit a Grant Renewal Application at least 60 days in advance of the proposed funding period. Prior years' performance and reports will play a major role in determining whether a given grant will be renewed.
  4. While SFI is happy to receive inquiries, please note that much of our grant making results from SFI turning to organizations in an effort to jointly craft program initiatives that help us achieve our philanthropic goals.
  5. In order to submit a grant proposal, SFI must first approve your inquiry.

Suggestions for Potential Applicants:
  1. Review SFI's history, mission, and program areas and criteria that appear on our website. Before making an inquiry, it is helpful if you have a clear understanding of SFI's programming and focus.
  2. While potential applicants are encouraged to call, write, fax, or email questions to SFI, pre-application visits are not normally accepted, to maintain a level playing field.
  3. Be prepared to show your organization or program's commitment to your field of work. We expect applicant organizations to show a commitment to sound management practices and to demonstrate active involvement of a board of directors and the support of relevant clients or target groups. You are encouraged to develop projects in collaboration with other organizations to produce a meaningful array of programs and to minimize duplication of efforts.
